A Reminisce:Bella's Fun & Loving Generosity
From Maurice for Auntie Bella's 80th
My earliest experiences as a child were the fun times at
Auntie Bella's house in Emmarentia. There was fun at Bella's house not only because Bella herself had a strong sense
of fun, but because she really enjoyed sharing the fun. She used to encourage her nieces & nephews to run the through
sprinkler on hot summer days. On anyone's birthday Bella got us all loads of chocolates & sweets. The really
exciting times were her returns from adventurous overseas trips. The stories of the overseas experiences were enthralling
especially so with her encounters of rediscovered cousins in far away lands. Also there were always presents from her
& late Uncle Bob's trips.Although the pocket transistor radio that I got from Bella in 1958 worked for only two days she
promised me another one on her next trip.
I was also privy to Bella & late Uncle Bob's generosity & easy hospitality in having lodgers in their home.I
lived with the family in 1963 for 18 months. Not only was this from home to home, but even when I got in trouble with the caretaker,
Bella & Bob came to my defence.
Bella's generosity even to this day is exemplified in her loving interest in the welfare of others around her &
those far away.On this 80th birthday Rose & I wish you abundance of health, family nachos & many more
meaningful,joyful years.
All our love,
Maurice & Rose

Happy Birthday Bella!
July 2008
So
much of your wonder has been described by your adoring family and friends.
Thanks for your quest to contact distant relatives,
Thanks for your joy de vie, your spirit of laughter
and fun has been my salvation,
Thanks for welcoming the new: ideas, people and things:
the first tape-recorder then movie camera before anyone else in our world, then Bob’s gunmetal-grey Hudson Hornet, what
a beauty!
Thank you for opening our eyes to the new world, I
learned that Modern art was beautiful.
Thanks for introducing us to real food: grills rather
than boiled things and the biltong hidden in your home (I was told by someone it was kosher).
Thanks
for the skills your taught: always sit at the end of the row when pictures are taken …you can then edit yourself out
if it is not appropriately flattering.
And finally thanks for not having a reserved seat
for me at your wedding… I learned never to take myself seriously since then! Many more years
of Love, Selwyn, Laura, Adam and Dori.

Dear Bella, Happy birthday! Its been amazing getting to see you so often in the past couple
of years and I hope we can continue to do so. I hope you have an amazing birthday, and send all my love. Zoe

What is wrinkly on
the outside, but sweet on the inside?
A granadilla fruit!
Granny Bella,
Just like the beautiful
passion fruit, from which one of our most beloved cakes was created, your sweet and tarty personality can be tasted from the
first encounter. Your loving and kind nature, along with a genuine concern for others, makes you a world-class granny, mother,
sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. I will never forget our weekly sleep-overs and morning trips to K-mart, our cooking classes,
movie-watching at Bayview village, playing cards, chats over tea, coffee, cake, gefilte fish—and of course—granadilla
cake. You have always been the most supportive and loving granny and I just love you so much! Sending you lots of love all
the way from Israel on your 80th birthday. Thank you for being the most amazing Gran in the world!
With
love,
Sherri

My memories of Aunty Bella are from telephone conversations. My grandfather and his
siblings have always been a mysterious group of people to me: spread across the world, yet tightly bonded; stoic and reserved,
yet warm and caring; and the undisputed patriarchs and matriarchs of the family. And, if we actually think about it, it is
quite a family legacy that they have forged for themselves...
Children and grandchildren across the globe, separated
by vast distances and different circumstances, who still maintain an almost illogical connection to each other and our shared
heritage. It seems to me no small thing that spanning far continents and split generations, so many of us still make the journeys
whenever we can all over the world to visit 'the mishpocha'. Whether its to see Benoni Discount Stores one more time, to taste
that special fresh babka your father always tells you about, or to celebrate the births, bar and batmitzvahs, weddings and
birthdays of the family, in Chicago, Toronto, Minneapolis, Jerusalem, or Joburg.
Bella would phone almost without fail
every Friday evening at my grandpa David's house, when she would have the chance to speak to as many loved ones as possible.
The discussions could last an hour, with Bella making sure to speak to everyone there, starting with the oldest, and moving
down the line, until she had asked me, then my sister, and later Faine and Sarit, what we were doing at school and when we
were coming to visit. The phone conversations were, retrospectively, indicative of the type of style our family is so lucky
to have: loving, emotional, fiery, and accepting of constant new membership. My Grandpa would talk for a few minutes, about
pleasantries, then my father and mother, and so on, until I would be left talking to Aunty Bella, being told to speak louder
by my father from the other room.
Only now, with a slow realization borne of a lack, am I aware of the value of family
communication. We are lucky to have such a dynamic, exciting, and interesting family tree, and it is a tragedy that we are
so split by distance. Yet at the same time, the distance brings out the best in our family. Regardless of the circumstances,
the bond remains strong, forged of shared experience stretching back many generations. Aunty Bella's birthday makes me realize
once again, how much it means to me to be a part of this little family world we have made for ourselves, and how much I'd
like to see everyone again.
Happy Birthday from everyone in S.A. Bella.

I’m not great at this
stuff. Most of what I feel can’t be articulated here. Like so much in life, nothing worth getting ever comes easily. Like Albert Brooks says:
“There are two kinds of mothers on the planet.
The first kind thinks that every single thing their children do is perfect and their children are God’s gift to
the world. And then there’s the other kind.”
I wouldn’t want it any other way!

& now San Francisco, you are always near in influence, understanding, caring and mostly Love.

a little off-white Anglia. Absent-minded losing things and not being punctual I was scolded, now I understand whyJ
Thanks for continually getting
the time difference wrong!
Thanks for always filling the
fridge, freezer and pantry (though not always easily opened) with the best goodies.
Thanks for making me feel younger:
telling everyone “I’m your baby!” especially when we go bargain

Thanks for being decent, picking

Dearest Bella,
Thanks for being supportive during our many moves.....your generous gifts, excellent

Happy Birthday Bella!! I often think of the day you showed me your wonderful art collection. While
Marcia, Yaron and I sipped green tea. I was stuck not only by your deep appreciation of these fantastic works but also
of how stimulating an environment it must have been for Yaron. You have passed the gift of appreciation to him
that he intern now uses to create for others. Hope you enjoy this very special day.

Dearest
Bella,
We want to wish you the
happiest 80th birthday. It’s a wonderful occasion, and you’re
such a special person for so many reasons.
You have always been so
supportive and interested in everything we’ve done. Whenever we speak,
you always ask with enthusiasm and interest about school, our jobs, and now our children.
We all rave about your cooking and baking (for good reason, of course), but you caring and affection make you the most
wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, and aunt. We’ve always loved your
energy, which hasn’t waned at all, and it makes our times together so fun and memorable.
It’s been so nice
for us to see you with our children. When Ben was a little baby, he would be
fussy and uncomfortable as babies are, and as soon as we put him in your arms, you knew exactly how to make him calm and content. I remember looking at him as a four or five month old sitting in your lap, so happy
and without a care at all. It came as no surprise, then, when the exact same
was true when you saw Ella. I’m sure when Adele and Yaron were young they
felt the same way as you held them.
We love you very much,
Bella, and wish you many more happy and healthy birthdays to come.
Love,
Daniel, Ami, Ben, and Ella

To dear
Bella,Wishing you all blessings
for a happy birthday filled with all the love and warmth that you have always brought to others. I remember meeting you soon
after your came back to Jo’burg from Israel, when I had just come to King David, and became friends with Adele. Coming
to you house in Linksfield was always so comfortable and relaxing: I felt welcomed as I walked in the door, and treated like
family (even though Ken and Lyd had probably just been together a little while by then!) I also remember a blonde-haired,
little brother Yaron getting up to mischief, as little brothers generally do!Bella, you have the rare gift of putting people at ease and making them feel good. Your
warm greetings and big hugs were of course followed by the inevitable offerings (no, you MUST have, and have some MORE!) of
home-baked goods, which to all who have been thus bestowed, are legendary: Bienenschtick (sp.?), bulkas, babke, to name but
a few! I see you as the archetypal Jewish mother with all of the best qualities and none of the bad stereotypes. You have
been an example of loyalty and devotion in all of the roles you have embraced in your life: mother, grandmother, daughter,
wife, sister, aunt, and friend. There’s not much more important that you can say of anyone’s life, as far as I
can tell.So have a really good
day and may you be blessed for many more birthdays filled with love. Treat yourself to a nice cup of tea and mon cake with
your loved ones. You’ve earned it!with
love,Moira, Neil, Jess and Quinn

Marijke and I have warm memories of you. We send our love and hope to see you soon!

Dearest
Auntie Bella,
Well I can’t believe you
are turning eighty, because you have always acted towards and treated me as one of your friends and contemporaries rather
than as a bossy aunt.
You have known me my whole life
I feel that our relationship really started in earnest some 30 odd years ago. It was round-about the time that your beloved
Bob became ill and subsequently died. You coped amazingly and handled the difficult times with incredible fortitude. Not only
did you stop smoking, organize single handedly a fantastic barmy for Yari, handle all Bob’s financial affairs but you
managed to create a warm and loving home to which all the family and friends loved coming. The time I spent with you in your
home forms part of the sweetest memories of my life. Not only did I love staying with you, but all of my friends enjoyed hanging
out in your home too. I remember how all my friends became your friends and all your friends (of whom there were many) became
mine, regardless of the age differences at the time, in particular I remember the fun we had together with the Farbers &
thanks for pretending that you believed that my girlfriend was actually staying in the sewing-room. You and Buel even let
me play bridge with you when you were desperate for a fourth. I thought I was great because I was doing my honors in klabberjas
at Wits at the time. Sweet times, we laughed, cried, played, cooked and baked together. Now when I pass daily down through
Tregoning
Street, I get a warm fuzzy feeling. I also got to spend lots of cherished quality time being near
Mike and Rose. By the way I don’t know if it’s true or not, but I love telling my friends that my aunt is so cool
that she lost her hearing at a Stones concert.
When you decided to leave S.A. to go and live nearer your kids in Canada,
you left a huge gap in our lives and we missed you sorely. I have been fortunate to attend quite a few simchas in North America and always look forward to seeing you (& your catering) there. Of late you have dropped
everything as always to be with Rose and to support her in what must be the saddest time of her life. It is always so reassuring
that you are always available to all the family whether it is to support them in difficult times or to celebrate with them.
My wife Shirls really loved meeting you recently and is now also a firm fond member of your fan club. Bell I could go on about how wonderful I think you are and what you mean to me. You and some
of the other Stillermans aren’t famous for being quietly spoken but you are a gentle soul with a huge heart and we all
love you dearly. So to a real fun lady, my father, wife and children join me in wishing you a very happy 80th birthday,
a wonderful year and many more healthy happy returns. All my love

Darling Auntie Bella: HAPPY 80th BIRTHDAY!!
For as long as I can remember dearest Auntie Bella,
you have always been there for us, as close as family can be. I know how much Mom and Dad have loved you and we feel the same.
My memories go back to your beautiful house and yard
on Tregoning Street and many wonderful afternoons running around the yard, swimming, and eavesdropping on the grown-ups’
conversations sitting in the back seat when you would keep Mom company on shopping trips.
We never minded when Mom and Dad went away on holidays (not too often, I’ll admit) when you and Uncle Bob would
take us in and give us the royal treatment. (The occasional scolding we always knew came from the place of deepest caring.)
I remember the love, care, and great food. (I’ll never forget the perfectly prepared poached eggs on buttery toast,
washed down with a glass of cool Nesquick.)
Always quick to laugh at a joke, offer advice for a
problem, share a recipe for a favorite dish. So full of verve and energy, active, curious, and ready to try and explore new
things. Always, always on our side no matter what, and there for us.
As we grew up into adulthood and started our own families,
you adopted all of us and shared every special family occasion you could manage, never empty handed but loaded with delish
fruitcake, babkes, poppy seed cookies, Canadian lox, and mackerel. Special occasions became even more special because you
and your beautiful children, Adele and Yaron and their wonderful families and grandchildren were there too. Our family feels
such strong bonds with yours; and you are the glue.
This is how we think of you Auntie Belle: loyal, kind,
loving, independent, energetic, witty, adventurous and gutsy. We admire you so much.
We wish you a wonderful 80th birthday and
many returns of the day!
All our love,
Helen, Peter, Dana, Zoe and Ann

Dearest Aunty Bella, A hearty mazel-tov for your eightieth birthday. Just sitting and taking the
time to write this and think about you, I am filled with Bella warmth and energy. You are the aunt who arrives with babke tucked
under each arm for simchas, across states or even countries. And you also share your recipes, and I remember being
so glad for your teaching my mom your dough recipe, she made the most yummy mon babkes and cinnamon bulkes afterwards.
But it is also so much fun to talk to you Aunty Bella. You make us laugh with your enthusiasm and your realness. I
remember sitting at Adele and Zwi's place as you told us which were the best telephone servers to use to make
cheap calls in the States. It sounds silly but you made the conversation so funny that I was rolling in stitches as I listened
to you. You are the 'aunty' my dad told me about who did not take marriage as a sign to settle down and live in the
suburbs. No, life was exciting for you, you traveled, explored, had fun, and you have always been a free spirit.
When the time was right you were able to make a life for your self in Canada. It seems that you make your home wherever
you are. I remember when you used to travel to South Africa to visit Granny Gerty and Zeida Louis. I remember feeling
touched that you came to visit, not for a special simcha or G-d forbid a sad occasion but simply and importantly to check
up on your sister, to connect. It was very special to see the way you care for your sister- indeed my Granny Gerty loves
you, Rose and late Aunty Hannah so much. And now in my relationship with my sister I seek to emulate some of that
fierce loyalty and love that transcends everything. You are an amazing mother, grandmother, aunty, great-aunty, sister
and sister-in-law. We love you so much! Happy eightieth Aunty Bella. To your good health, nachas, happiness and more adventures! Love Adina

Dear Gran, On your 80th birthday there are some things you need to know. You are the epitome of
loving kindness. I can not think of a more selfless, warm, caring, and giving person! Your endless support and love for the
family is moving and inspiring. I cherish the hours I spend chatting with you over delicious lunches, dinners and teas.
You are a compendium of family history and my link to Grandpa Bob. You celebrate and relish in all of my achievements as if
they were your own and for the feeling this gives me I will always be thankful. I love you and am thrilled to be celebrating
your life on your 80th birthday! Stevie
My dear Gran, I feel so blessed to have had you such a large and important part of my life. From my
early years you’ve instilled in me and passed on Jewish values that have helped me so much in striving to be the
best person that I can be. Your devotion in helping others with such sincerity and good heartedness has been an
example to all of us of what it means to help others. Your love and support has been with us through all the ups
and downs in life. And I would like to thank you with all my heart for all of your love, good thoughts, and prayers
that have been so nurturing to make us who we are Please G_d you should have a lot of naches from us and from all
of the family and you should be blessed with good health, long years and a life filled with true joy. Happy 80th

My Dearest Bella.
Such
a wonderful Birthday. I welcome you to the octogenarians, and wish you health and happiness,
and
have a wonderful life.
Although
the memories that I have of our families are rather old, they are also very vivid, mainly because of so many wonderful things
we did together. Adventures and experiences which not many have been as privileged as we have been to share. Living for many
years not only as friends, but in many respects also as family.
These
memories bring joy to my heart every time I think of them.
Pity
we are so far away.
With
fondest affection
Sincerely.

Dear Bella,
First and foremost I want to wish you a very happy birthday .May you have many many more in good health and happiness,
with lots of naches andn joy from all your family.
our family history goes beyond what I can remeber, but these things I do remember.
My earliest childhood memories are with you and your big smile, and Uncle Bob and his.
You and Bob, were very close and special friends to dad and my late mother Teshurah.
Next thing I know we made Aliyah to Israel, together, where you and us, the Pecks, spent some of our most impressionable
years.
You are a magnificent woman, out and in and I only remeber with great sentimentality the love my mom had for you, she
counted you as her closest friend
You have always been warm, loving and giving, there when needed and there to love. You always and still have a giant
smile on your beautiful face, a smile that endears and embraces everyone you know. That smile spreads wings and protects all
who are touched by it. Add to that a ballabosta par excellence and there is no better combination.
I remember Adele with a great deal of warmth and love as well as Yaron. While sadly the geographical distance between
us has grown, it has never eroded our love and friendship and we were thrilled to see you again for dad's 80th and wish
we could be there for yours, please know that we are with you in spirit.
We pray that you always have good health, joy and happiness for many , many years to come

Firstly, that you brought Adele into the world, and moulded her to be who
she is, so that I would be lucky enough to meet my life's partner. From the outset, you made me so welcome in your home
on Tregonning Street, where I enjoyed so many wonderful times and meals with you and your family. Your relationship with Bob
was so illuminating for me, as it was the best model I had of how a married couple can make a meaningful and warm family home.Your ever
present commitment to and generosity towards Adele as a young girl struck me and served to shape how I have tried to
relate to my kids.
Secondly, your contribution to my kids has been so important to each of them. They love you so much,
and you are and have been such a great part of their lives. They are truly lucky to have had you in their lives and you
have made a great difference to the people they are and will evolve into throughout their lives.I know how badly they want
you to live until at least 120 years to enjoy the many experiences they will enjoy in their life-journeys.
Thirdly, you have to be the most selfless giving person I know. You always approach life thinking
what you can do, give or contribute to others. Perhaps the greatest "gift" you have given to me personally, besides the effect
you have had on who I am as outlined above, is your help in starting and growing my firm. You worked for the first few years
without pay so I could form a base off which to prosper. Your undying support and confidence in me gave me hope in the
darkest of moments when I thought I was failing, and could not go on- experiences that have helped me know that I can achieve
whatever I put my mind towards.
Finally, I am always aware how you recover from life's knocks, and you look to the future and want
to live fully.I encourage you to do this for ever and make the most of every moment you have.
For all this there is no way to say in words how much I appreciate your involvement in my and
my family"s life.
I wish you years and years of good health, and wonderful times with all the people who are important
to you.
All my love,
Al.

Dear Bella,
Heartiest mazeltov .
I have never forgotten about you. We had such wonderful times together that we will never forget.
We went to Allan and Maureen's engagement in Bulawayo, how you came with all the bagels, chocolates, polonioes, everything
you brought to the airport. I will always be grateful. Bella, we haven't seen you in many years but will always remember
you. I am 81 and a half and fat and I hope that all the family are all well.Lots of love and luck.

To my darling auntie Bella
I love you so much. It’s an enormous pleasure to write a birthday wish for you on your 80th. It’s lovely to reminisce and remind you what you mean to all of us and to extol
some of your many virtues and talents.
I remember that you and Uncle Bob were always the brave, adventurous ones, traveling overseas when the rest of the
family’s furthest frontier was Muizenberg. You have continued that tradition
with your ‘can do’ attitude, leading by example by tackling new challenges with gumption and enthusiasm.
Bella, to say that you are generous is an understatement. I remember
when you lived overseas or even if you just went on a trip you would return with loads and loads of presents. As a result, when I was younger I thought people went overseas just
to shop for the ones left behind! You never arrive any place without something
exceptional that you have baked or bought. And you always show up! I cannot think of a family event you have missed.
You are so generous with your praise. You are the most enthusiastic fan, so it’s always great to tell you some
small or large success. On the other hand, after a difficulty or disappointment
you are there to say ‘Never Mind’ or cry with us.
You are such good company. You appreciate of a funny story and you have a few yourself. Now that we live in the Bay Area, I can never go to San Francisco without conjuring up the image based on
a story you told us of your honeymoon (I think) where Uncle Bob had to push you up the steep, hilly streets.
You are always rushing in to help someone who needs it. When Dean was a young baby you hopped on a plane and were
there to teach him his earliest version of ‘Tell me a story, tell me a story, tell me a story before I go to bed…’. It was so cute – I can still see you poking his little chest while he watched
you intently.
I remember once we were staying at your house on Tregoning Street because my parents had gone on a trip. My mother had bought me a special multi-colored pen that I had acquired after a lot of begging. To my horror, on the very first day I took it to school I lost the pen. I was in agony of how I was going
to explain this to my mom. When I saw you after school you noticed my glumness and you went straight to the store and bought
a replacement – Problem Solved! I thought you were amazing. I owe you many foot massages to compensate!
Your loyalty is well-known and treasured. You have been a wonderful daughter,
sister, cousin, wife, aunt, mother, in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. We always feel you on our side, on
our team and we are so proud and happy to have you in our family. We love to
laugh with you and cry with you and everything in-between with you.Happy 80th

Our darling auntie Bella, you are such an important person in our lives. During all our childhood
in Italy far away from the family our biggest joy were our visits to the family in Jo'burg and we waited excitedly for
each and every person who came by Italy. We have such wonderful memories of our holidays with you and our darling unlce Bob.
You've always loved people and people love you. We had great times with Yaron and Adele in your lovely Linksfield home; we

Dearest Bella,
Happy 80th
Birthday!!! This is such a special occasion, and we are thrilled to be able to share it with you, even if it’s from
a bit of a distance.
One of my earliest
memories of you is when my mom, brothers and I came to visit you in Toronto many years ago.
Alan offered to take care of the children one night, to give the ladies a chance for an outing together. Everyone had gone to sleep except for me, so Alan asked me to chat with him while he washed the dishes. All of a sudden I had to go to the bathroom, but it felt so adult to be standing there
talking with Alan on my own, that I was too embarrassed to say anything and interrupt the conversation. So I did what unfortunately seemed like the only reasonable option at the time – I went in my pants. You, Adele and my mom arrived soon after. I’ll
never forget you coming in the door, and when you walked in the kitchen you exclaimed, “Tammy! Are you standing in a
puddle of wee?????” Ever since then, I have always known that you are a
person who speaks openly and honestly. If I ask your opinion, I never question
whether you are telling me what you think you should say, rather than sharing your true thoughts.
Over the years
you have trekked to every Bar/Bat Mitzvah, wedding, and then come for many visits in between.
Each time my eyes open wide when you reveal the mountains of bulkas, cookies and cakes that you have spent hours preparing,
and then schlepping across international borders. Hearing about Sunday teas at
Rose and Mike’s house has been such an important part of my life, because it has helped shape my sense of family. When we all gather around the table eating your delicious food, I feel like we are
recreating that wonderful environment.
I don’t know
how we could have managed without you over these past few months. As soon as
you would walk in the door, I would feel an almost instant sense of relief. Whether
you were just spending time with us, doing errands or cooking meals to leave for us in the freezer, you were always focused
on everyone’s well-being. Which is why I was so pleased to have you over
to our house for dinner when you visited in June. You kept asking what you could
bring, and only reluctantly agreed to just come and enjoy. Despite that, the
first thing you said when you walked in my house was, “I feel sick that I’ve come empty-handed.” Dearest Bella, you have never come empty-handed – you fill our lives with love and affection, and
we are so lucky to have you as our second Granny.
With love and admiration,

So many years have gone by
When we were young and gay
To school we went, but each on our own way
It was Jeppe high for you, and Athlone for me
And though we seldom saw each other then
We always crossed each others way
We moved to Linksfield and I was already there
Our daughters met at King David and they became good friends
Once more there was a space and to Canada we all came
Our children were united, and so automatically were we
A life long friendship continued, and so it will always be
To you my dear friend, my best wishes I give,
For your good health, happiness, and NACHEZ
I hug and kiss you on this your 80th
With fondest love always.
Your friend.

Dear Bella,
Its always good to take a few moments to reflect on the gifts others bring to
our lives. Yarrie's request for an 80th Birthday greeting for you gives me this welcome opportunity.
As a teenager, I was lucky to be included in your warm and welcoming YomTov celebrations.
Your hospitality and love of your family left a lasting impression on me and has given me many wonderful memories.
As I started hosting my own YomTov gatherings there were many frantic phone calls
to you for emergency advice, recipes, instructions etc. You were generous with your time and detailed in your directions but
somehow I could never get whatever I was cooking to taste as good as yours. Still, many pages in my recipe book are titled
"Bella's_________".
The passages of our lives, including immigration, births, shivas, chagim, joyful
additions, painful losses, have been shared - and this has made the joy more joyful and the pain a little less painful. You
have enhanced our lives in too many ways to mention in this brief message and we hope you continue to be part of our lives
for many years to come.
Happy 80th Birthday!! May you be blessed with many years of good health,
pride in all you have accomplished, and great joy with your family and friends.
Love

"My dearest Auntie Bella
Wow- 80 years young- how time flies. I have so many wonderful childhood
memories of time spent with you, late uncle Bob, Adele and Yaron and it all feels like just yesterday. In
fact, it is no exaggeration when I say that more than one defining moment in my childhood either involved a member of your
family or occurred in the presence of all or some of the Golombick family. It is hard to believe that we have lived
on opposite ends of the earth for so much of my lifetime- I guess the very special connection, bond and LOVE that our
families share makes distance and time irrelevant! My elegant, beautiful and always gracious godmother, may Hashem bless you
with many more years of health, happiness, love, laughter and Nachas from all your children and grandchildren. Unfortunately,
I cannot be with you today to celebrate this significant milestone- but be sure that I will be thinking of you, as I so
often do. I look forward to seeing you again soon - wherever in the world that might be- so that I can show off the
next generation of Blaus to you. With all our love and affection, Always Robbie, Lauren, David , Matthew, Sarah Isabella
and Micaela Blau" Chat soon

Hi Bella, Wishing you a wonderful, happy 80th birthday.
My memories of Tregoning Street, go back to the little sewing room I was supposed to sleep in when I came to visit
Clive on the weekends.!!! I also remember the extra freezer, in the bridge room, with the hidden bulkes, not forgetting the
baking lessons, and the fun at the house when ever I came there. Those were very happy and special days for me.
I can also remember, how hard it was to reverse out the driveway!!!! I know the current owner of the house in Tregoning
St. They have done some alterations to the house, and it looks lovely.
Of all the things I remember about Clive's
aunties, it is the expression "my darling". I loved it and I use it alot myself when I talk to my children. Thanks
for that. Bella, happy birthday and many many more. All my love elaine

THANK YOU MOM FOR:
-Creating a warm and safe home with Daddy and for providing me with
such a positive role model for a loving, affectionate and supportive relationship.
-Buying me Noddy books every week and giving me a love for reading.
I used to wait with great anticipation for our weekly outing to the Greenside book store ( which is still there now!)
-Making me beautiful little home-made bikini's to wear on Muizenberg
beach.
-Living in England and exposing me to amazing theatre such as Oliver
Twist, My Fair Lady, and The Sound Of Music. For connecting me to the Sumroy family and Daddy's roots.
-Taking me to wonderful places such as Majorca, Spain and skiing
in San Anton and giving me a love of travel and adventure.
-Living in Israel and giving me an opportunity to speak Hebrew, develop
a love for this miraculous little country, have the best few years of my childhood and experience life in Israel. All these
travels expanded and enriched my life immensely.
-Being an available "at home" mother who was always there for me when
I came home from school.
-Welcoming Alan and the Farbers into your life so wholeheartedly and
warmly. You made Beulah a sister and Alan a son and united us all with your warmth and hospitality.
-Bringing all the food for Jonnie's Bris in your suitcase.
-Making me Gefilte fish when I was pregnant and so nauseous.
-Helping me endlessly with the children by sleeping over to give us
a good night's sleep; having the kid's sleep over at you on Friday nights and taking them for their weekly trip to K-Mart
for a treat; taking them to doctor and dentist appointments when I had to go to work, babysitting when we went on holidays;
taking Stevie to the Doctor when his ears got frost bitten!
-Most importantly making them feel loved and valued by the only grand-parent
they have really known.
-Being such a loyal employee to Alan and helping him make his business
such a success by typing on the little portable type-writer and being such a valued and loved member of staff.
-For typing my university papers before computerization
-Making Shabbat dinners so graciously when I have to go to the hairdresser
or a conference.
-Baking all your delicoius cakes, cookies, boolkes and babkes for
all occasions, teas and functions to the degree that my frIends come over expecting Bella's baking or else being very dissapointed.
-MOST OF ALL BEING A LOVING, SUPPORTIVE AND WONDERFUL MOTHER
TO ME!WE WISH YOU HAPPY 80TH BIRTHDAY AND MANY MORE HEALTHY ONES.
ALL MY LOVE

Happy Birthday
our darling Aunty Bella.
I remember describing my family to my then boyfriend Steven Sher. I mentioned that we have a very special
Great Aunty Bella who is the best baker and who knows how to give the biggest and bestest hugs. I told Steve that every
simcha is marked by a big, warm and generous "hello my darling", followed by a loving hug and maybe a piece of delicious babka.
You see, Bella travels anywhere in the world to a simcha armed with buckets of love and babka.
You are the best Bella.
We love you so much-you are Our Darling and we cannot wait to
give you a big warm hug.

Dearest Aunty Bella - it is such a pleasure to be part of this global birthday card. Do you know (hindsight makes us all smart!) that
you were 19 when I was born? That's why all my memories of you are of a strong, beautiful, chic, young woman .... How
we laughed and lived and loved and learnt... in Mazoe Rd, in Linksfield... years of absolute happiness. Dozens of cousins.
A plum tree of note. Cine hand-held family movies.... Neighbours called George who dressed like Georgina. Mimosa trees. Judy doing enormous flower arrangement, filling the
house with blooms... Sewing lessons - cooking lessons - so much hair dressing - always books for me, brought back from your
overseas trips - what a life! Who could ask for better memories? I learned so much from you - how does one say thank
you for all that?
Happy birthday dear heart . Many more.
I carry your heart with me. I carry it in my heart.

Darling
Aunty Bella,
Happy
80th Birthday! I feel lucky to have you as an aunt-although you have
been much, much more. Everything in my life is richer because of you. You are generous in so many ways. Growing up, when I
did well on a test or in sport, I couldn’t wait to tell Aunty Bella and Uncle Bob.
I relished your praise. Even now I look forward to sharing good news with
you. It makes the good news so much better. You have always been so welcoming. From Emarentia to Cyrildene to London, to Israel to Linksfield to Toronto, your house always
feels like home. I remember how you and Uncle Bob weren’t even deterred
by Mrs. Ephron when she screamed that you weren’t supposed to have people sleeping over.
Your
support of the extended family is evident in many ways. My father told me often
how difficult Medical School would have been without the support of you and Uncle Bob.
I know that Uncle Bob bought suits from my father even though he could have gotten a better deal somewhere else. Thoughtful,
giving and kind don’t do justice in describing you when I think of all the cakes and cookies and boelkas and babkes
and salmon and peppered mackerel and flakes crunchies and mint humbugs you have
brought to Bar and Bat mitzvahs, Weddings and even when you are just visiting. I
appreciate the time you spend shopping, baking and carrying heavy suitcases.
You are
there for us in wonderful times. Kenneth, Tammy, Eric, Jonah, Jonny, Mandee,
Ami, Daniel, Ben and Ella have all benefited from your love and support. Do you
remember how you and Yaron came to visit in Chicago just after the Jonny and Daniel were born?
What would we have done without your help? You are there for us in sad times.
These last few months have been so difficult. You have supported us unconditionally.
The best thing, Aunty Bel, is that you are honest. I feel that I can accept your
praise and I can rely on you, because if I do something not quite right I know that you will tell me. With lots of love, hugs and kisses,
Lydia
Mena and Ben Sischy Toronto
Bella, our very best wishes on your 80th birthday!
Do you remember the time – many years ago now – when you taught us to make bagels so that we could teach
our Japanese daughter-in-law how to make them? Rob and Yuriko and the children
were living in Kelowna, B.C. at that point and they certainly didn’t have any bagel bakeries there in those days!
With love from Mena and
